Official study title

Effects of Square-Stepping Exercise in cognitive function, functioning and prevention of falls in elderly people with Parkinson's Disease

Short title used by the registry

Effects of Square-Stepping Exercise in cognition, functioning and prevention of falls in elderly people with Parkinson's Disease

Original description

Intervention: This is a two-arm, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical study. Experimental group: 28 elderly people with Parkinson's Disease who will perform an exercise program involving the Square Step Exercise (SSE). Control group: 28 elderly people with Parkinson's disease who will perform a high-intensity functional training program (HIFE). Participants will be randomly allocated [simple randomization sequence will be computer generated (1:1)]. The study will be carried out for 8 weeks, with assessments being carried out at different times: (1) pre-intervention and (2) after 8 weeks of training. The two groups will participate in activities twice a week, in person, with each meeting lasting 60 minutes.;G11.427.410.698.277 Primary outcome: It is expected that regular participation in exercises involving the Square-Stepping Exercise will promote improvement in the functionality of elderly individuals living with Parkinson's Disease assessed by the Timed-Up and Go Test, after 8 weeks of training Secondary outcome: It is expected that regular participation in exercises involving the Square-Stepping Exercise will promote improvement in gait of elderly individuals living with Parkinson's Disease assessed by the three meter walking Test, after 8 weeks of training
