Official study title

Evaluation of the use of Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation in the Treatment of Postural Instability and cognitive improvement in Parkinson's Disease

Short title used by the registry

Evaluation of the effectiveness of galvanic vestibular stimulation in the rehabilitation of Parkinson's Disease

Original description

Intervention: This is an interventional study, characterized by Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation, as a new therapeutic strategy for balance rehabilitation. The proposed number is 60 individuals. The study is a parallel, two-arm study, since one group of participants will receive Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation and another group will receive classic vestibular rehabilitation. Masking will be open, however, the researcher who will carry out the pre- and post-intervention exams will not know which therapeutic strategy the individual was subjected to. The allocation will be randomized-controlled in which participants will be distributed through a draw. Patients will be evaluated before and after the intervention regarding balance, through posturography and VEMP and regarding cognition, through the long latency auditory evoked potential - P300.;E05.723.402 Primary outcome: It is expected to find an improvement in postural balance, verified through the Berg Balance Scale evaluation method, based on the observation of an increase in the score, in which results above or equal to 45 are satisfactory after intervention; Using the Time up and go test method, we will observe a decrease in the post-intervention score, in which values below 10 or between 10 and 19 are acceptable parameters as they configure values for independent individuals; It is also expected to verify, using the computerized posturography method, the increase in the stability limit comparing pre- and post-intervention values and an increase in the values of the visual, somatosensory, vestibular and general balance indexes, reaching values greater than 90%, compatible with values reference of elderly individuals without the pathology; It is expected to find an improvement in voluntary attention, verified through the method of comparing the results of the P300 exam, based on the observation of a decrease in latency and an increase in wave amplitude of at least 30 ms and 5 µV, respectively, pre and post -intervention. Secondary outcome: No secondary outcomes are expected.
