Official study title

CORE-DBS: Registry Study on Deep Brain Stimulation at the University Hospital Cologne

Original description

Intervention: Group 1: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established therapeutic approach for advanced movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Beyond randomized controlled trials, crucial knowledge on efficacy, side effects, and long-term outcomes derives from real-world observational data. Technological advances—including directional electrodes and sensing-capable systems—have continuously reshaped the therapy. The registry aims to systematically capture these developments within routine clinical care. Primary outcome: All listed data are obtained as part of routine clinical care, without study-specific examinations or additional visits. The evaluations take place at the pre-surgical indication assessment and at three, six, twelve, and twenty-four months postoperatively. Age; Sex; Weight; Height; Primary diagnosis; Diagnosis date; Date of first symptom onset; Relevant comorbidities; Assessment timepoint (pre-surgical evaluation/surgery/follow-up); Date of surgery; Anatomical target; Neuromodulation system (manufacturer/type); Stimulation parameters (contact selection; amplitude; frequency; pulse width; limits); Medication plan; Clinical scales (Parkinson: Hoehn–Yahr; MDS-UPDRS; Marconi; MDS-NMSS; PDQ-39; FOG-Q; C-FOG; VHI; DBS-IS; PD-StigmaQuest; MMSE; FLW; PANDA; MoCA; HADS-D; AES; MSS; QUIPS-RS; BDI-II; Fatigue scale; Essential tremor: TETRAS; TRS-A/B/C; QUEST; ADL; VHI; VAS tremor/gait/speech; CCAS; Dystonia: TRS-B; SF-36; VHI; RUI); Surgical report; Electrophysiology (beta survey; sensing); Pre/post-operative imaging (MRI; CT); if available nuclear imaging (FDG-PET; DaT-SPECT); Speech recording; Video recording; Study withdrawal (date; reason).
