Official study title

Evaluating differential effects of two types of exercises on prefrontal cortical activation during dual-task walking in Parkinson ’s disease: Study of using a fNIRS device

Short title used by the registry

Evaluating differential effects of two types of exercises on prefrontal cortical activation during dual-task walking in Parkinson ’s disease: Study protocol of using a fNIRS device

Original description

Intervention: Treadmill training: Participants will perform gait training on treadmill. During the first two weeks of the program, treadmill speed will be set at 80% of usual gait speed. The 30-minute training sessions will conducted in three sessions with 5-min break at interval. From three to four weeks, the treadmill speed will be increased to 90% of usual speed, training session will be completed in two 15-min sessions respectively, 5 min break between sessions. The latter 8 weeks, treadmill speed will be increased to usual speed and train continuously 30 min. Participants will conduct 5-min active stretching exercises to warm-up. Ten minutes of relaxation exercise will be performed on over-ground at end of treadmill training;Baduanjin :Participants will be instructed to perform Baduanjin. During the initial 2 to 4 weeks, participants will learn to adjust their breathing and coordinate with prescribed movements. The whole set of Baduanjin Qigong movements usually take 12-15 min to complete at the regular pace.The later 5 to 12 weeks, concurrent cognitive task will added to the exercise.;Control:As a waiting training group, they continued to maintain their usual treatment and lifestyle and did not undergo any form of intensive training. After the 12-week follow-up evaluation, treadmill training and Baduanjin Qigong training were conducted respectively.; Primary outcome: Oxygenated hemoglobin concentration (HbO2); Gait speed (m/s); Stride length(m);Double phase time (%);Stride variability (%);Step width (cm); Secondary outcome: Motor function;Balance function;Mobility;

Conditions reported: Parkinson's disease
