Original abstract
This literature review analyzes and examines research from the past five years on suicidal behavior in patients with neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Huntington's disease. The review identifies psychological, social, and disease-related risk factors, evaluates the impact of disease progression and loss of functional independence on mental health, and assesses current strategies for screening, prevention, and intervention. By highlighting implications for clinical practice and multidisciplinary care, this review will outline critical areas for future research, including the development of systematic screening protocols from the point of diagnosis, integration of psychological support into neurological care, and targeted investigation within the Lithuanian population. Šioje literatūros apžvalgoje analizuojami per pastaruosius penkerius metus atlikti tyrimai apie savižudišką elgesį pacientams, sergantiems neurodegeneracinėmis ligomis, daugiausia dėmesio skiriant Alzheimerio ligai, Parkinsono ligai, amiotrofinei lateralinei sklerozei ir Huntingtono ligai. Apžvalgoje nustatomi bendri ir ligai būdingi rizikos veiksniai, nagrinėjamas ligos progresavimo ir funkcinio savarankiškumo praradimo vaidmuo bei įvertinamos dabartinės atrankos ir prevencijos strategijos. Pabrėžiant klinikinę ir visuomenės sveikatos reikšmę, šioje apžvalgoje apibrėžiamos svarbiausios būsimų tyrimų sritys, įskaitant ligoms būdingus atrankos protokolus.
