Original abstract
Introduction: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder commonly seen, especially in older adults. Its effects on various functions and quality of life highlight the need for a multidisciplinary approach. This study aims to systematically examine postgraduate theses on PD conducted in Faculties of Health Sciences in Turkey. Material and Methods: Using document analysis, theses meeting the criteria and listed in the National Thesis Center database of the Council of Higher Education between 1997 and 2024 were reviewed. Results: Master’s theses were dominant, with 70% (n=21) focusing on “assessment,” while 50% (n=5) of doctoral theses focused on “therapy.” Disciplinary distribution was: Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation 35% (n=14), Nursing 28% (n=11), Speech and Language Therapy 18% (n=7), Nutrition and Dietetics 18% (n=7), and Occupational Therapy 3% (n=1). Discussion and Conclusion: The review showed that these theses contribute to the accumulation of knowledge, and that addressing the impacts in speech and language therapy in detail is important for better understanding the disease and developing effective interventions. Keywords: Parkinson disease, faculty of health sciences, speech and language therapy, thesis analysis.
