Original abstract

Abstract This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical features, diagnostic processes, and management strategies for common movement disorders. Movement disorders encompass a range of neurological conditions characterized by abnormalities in the control of voluntary movement. These disorders manifest as either excessive movements (hyperkinetic disorder) or diminished movements (hypokinetic disorder). Notable movement disorders include Parkinson disease, essential tremor, dystonia, chorea, and ataxia. Treatment strategies differ based on the specific disorder and can involve medications, surgical interventions such as deep brain stimulation, and rehabilitative therapies. Advancements in the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying these disorders have led to the development of targeted therapies, improving patient outcomes.
