Original abstract
The dysfunction of the saccadic movement of the gaze is often found in people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and even causing negative impact on the performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) strategies for its treatment are scarce. In this context, the aim of this study was to describe a care protocol with eye training and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (ETCC) and to verify its influence on the execution of saccadic eye movement, in motor, non-motor, and functional aspects such as gait and balance, in people with PD. This is the report of two clinical cases. The Berg Balance Scale, the UPDRS Scale, the Time up and go test and the "Electrostagmography" exam were used as measurements. Both individuals were submitted to an intervention protocol with the use of ETCC associated with oculomotor exercises. The results of case 1 were discrete in the measurements used. The results of Case 2 showed a symmetry of response between the analyzed measures. By our results there was a relationship between the improvement in some cognitive functions with the stimulation of the Frontal Ocular Field (COF), in addition to changes in the scores of the evaluative instruments used. The influence of the association of anodic ETCC in COF for the improvement of oculomotor performance in adults with PD and the relationship with the cognitive aspects investigated is unclear. In conclusion, the findings suggest partial effects of the protocol, but do not allow us to affirm its effectiveness due to the limited number of participants. Future studies are needed to continue the investigation.
